I had been working in the Scottish Parliament for over a year and joined Audit Scotland in July 2007. I saw the post at Audit Scotland as a chance to use my skills and experiences gained from University and work within the public sector on areas of national interest.

As a project officer you play a substantial role within a number of different project teams, this mostly involves taking responsibility for the data and research component of the study, which will form an important part of the final report. In addition, there are plenty of opportunities get involved in other parts of the fieldwork such as going along to meetings and visiting sites for case studies.

I have already been working on some really interesting studies, and broadening my range of abilities at the same time. From the very start I have felt involved and useful, bringing my own knowledge and expertise into the role.

The work can be constant and fast paced at times, and coming from a non-auditing background has not been a problem. There is an abundance of internal and external training opportunities to help gain some important new skills to shape a very rewarding career. More importantly I have found people extremely helpful and supportive, regardless of their position, or the fact that they work in different directorates.
