Data Analytics Core Team

Data analytics is at the heart of Audit Scotland’s core business – we provide assurance by interpreting data about public services in Scotland.

Our Data Analytics Core Team supports this function by providing specialist skills and knowledge to underpin our audit approach across the organisation.

Some of our recent projects include:

  • Transforming the financial audit process by creating a web-based analysis application
  • Creating modern dashboards to help our staff understand a complex information environment about public services in Scotland
  • Using NLP text analysis techniques to provide a semantic search engine for reports about public bodies.

We have a diverse set of skills and experience, from software engineering to machine learning, to statistics. Our team works across the organisation to build internal products, provide support and training, and conduct technical research. We’re open and honest, and we support each other.

We work closely with the Digital Services Development Team on technical developments, and our partners in Professional Support to make sure that we are consistent about the audit approach and auditing standards.

We use a variety of technologies, including R / RStudio, Shiny, Python, Git/GitHub, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, and IDEA.
