Join our Digital and Data teams

Audit Scotland employs staff working in a variety of digital and technology roles. From analysing data trends to providing security assurance on our critical systems, staff work across the organisation to support our mission.

We are currently looking for a Cloud Application Developer, a Data Application Developer and a Data Scientist.

Operating within our Digital Services Development Team the Cloud Application Developer will design, prototype, develop and deploy new applications across our environments and cloud platforms. They will work closely with our Data Analytics Core Team to deliver smart, data aware solutions that enhance our audit findings and insights.

Our Data Application Developer will support our audit approach by developing data-driven applications and scripts, providing new insights and better workflows for our auditors.

Our Data Scientist will help deliver products involving data analysis, predictive insights, and specialised process automation, working with auditors and digital staff to research and introduce new approaches to our work.

About our teams

Digital Services Development Team

The Digital Services Development Team is responsible for the applications and services that keep Audit Scotland functioning, providing the innovation to power our digital transformation. The team will consist of our Database Developer and Digital Project Manager who will be joined by a Cloud Application Developer and Data & Development Manager. Using their own applications or third-party tools, or a mix of both, they will provide the services and applications to integrate all aspects of our business and provide vital insights on how we can become more efficient and effective.

The team uses our SQL infrastructure to deliver services such as our Data Warehouse which informs our business decisions and audit insights through Power BI, SSRS and custom PowerApps solutions. They deliver and integrate third-party services such as our new Business Management Systems working toward a complete Performance Management Framework where we understand and monitor our business process in real time so that we can anticipate future trends and adapt to use our resources more effectively.

From C#, Power Apps, .Net, Git/GitHub, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, R, Visual Studio we strive to use the best device and the best tool for the job and are always open to new innovative solutions. We work as part of the diverse and distributed Digital Services Team who have a wide range of digital skills and who are always learning new skills and sharing their experiences of solving technical problems. We run the team according to agile principles, using sprints and a backlog to manage our work.

Data Analytics Core Team

Data analytics is at the heart of Audit Scotland’s core business – we provide assurance by interpreting data about public services in Scotland.

Our Data Analytics Core Team supports this function by providing specialist skills and knowledge to underpin our audit approach across the organisation.

Some of our recent projects include:

  • Transforming the financial audit process by creating a web-based analysis application
  • Creating modern dashboards to help our staff understand a complex information environment about public services in Scotland
  • Using NLP text analysis techniques to provide a semantic search engine for reports about public bodies.

We have a diverse set of skills and experience, from software engineering to machine learning, to statistics. Our team works across the organisation to build internal products, provide support and training, and conduct technical research. We’re open and honest, and we support each other.

We work closely with the Digital Services Development Team on technical developments, and our partners in Professional Support to make sure that we are consistent about the audit approach and auditing standards.

We use a variety of technologies, including R / RStudio, Shiny, Python, Git/GitHub, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, and IDEA.

You will work using agile principles to develop new applications in our cloud platform, positively impacting and improving how Audit Scotland operates. You will manage and maintain Audit Scotland’s application suite to ensure it remains functional, secure and modern.

As part of the Data Analytics Core Team, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving the growing suite of in-house data-driven applications that we need to support world-class public audit. You will support our Digital Audit strategy, providing new insights into the financial health and performance of public bodies across Scotland.

Using coding, maths, statistics, and software engineering, you will deliver products involving data analysis, predictive insights, and specialised process automation. This will involve working directly with a variety of audit and technical staff to refine requirements, prototype solutions, and to research/evaluate new approaches across both financial audit and performance audit.
