Over the last two years our NHS in Scotland reports have covered the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the NHS workforce and outlining the significant impact the pandemic has had on services and on the health of the population. In our NHS in Scotland 2021 report we commented on the Scottish Government’s NHS Recovery Plan 2021-26 and highlighted several risks to the successful recovery of NHS services following the Covid-19 pandemic.
We will now follow up on this in our NHS in Scotland 2022 report by carrying out a more detailed analysis of the Recovery Plan. Our objectives for the report are to establish whether the ambitions outlined in the Recovery Pan are achievable, and if they can help tackle the backlog of healthcare that has built up during the pandemic while reforming services in a sustainable way. We will also examine the financial commitments made in the Recovery Plan to help deliver its ambitions, and report on the overall financial position of the NHS in Scotland as it emerges from the pandemic.
