Publication: Better by the day - Day surgery in Scotland Update

by Accounts Commission

This report looks into the use of day surgery in acute trusts in Scotland. It reviews progress against national day surgery targets and recommends that the government should increase the current targets. This would result in 22,000 more patients being treated on a day surgery basis and could enable at least 20% of resources currently being devoted to their inpatient stay to be released for additional patient care. The report provides up to date information on the performance of Scottish hospitals and highlights a number of issues which require action if day surgery is to fulfil its potential as a high quality, cost effective method of treatment.
