Four new members of the Accounts Commission have been appointed by Joe FitzPatrick, Minister for Local Government, Empowerment and Planning. The new members are: Carol Evans, Angela Leitch, Mike Neilson and Derek Yule.

These appointments provide the Accounts Commission with wide-ranging experience of local and central government, and the private and third sectors.

Effective working relationships between the UK and devolved governments will be key to achieving net zero by 2050 - given the different net zero targets, carbon budgets and policies across the four nations.

Accessing adult mental health services in Scotland remains slow and complicated for many people. In particular, ethnic minority groups, people living in rural areas and those in poverty all face additional barriers.

There have been big funding increases for services since 2017, but a lack of data makes it hard for the Scottish Government to see the impact of that spending. Waiting times for psychological therapies have improved. But ministers do not measure the quality of wider mental healthcare services, or whether they are improving people’s health.

Glasgow City Council, trade unions and others are urged to maintain the pace in implementing a new system aimed at ensuring employees are paid equally in the future for the work they do.

Since 2018, the council has settled or is in the process of settling about 19,000 claims from former and current employees who had been underpaid in comparison to counterparts, at a cost of £765 million. To fund this, the council entered ‘sale and leaseback’ arrangements with council-owned bodies on cultural, sporting and education properties.
