Deputy Chair of the Accounts Commission appointed

Elma Murray

The Scottish Government have confirmed Elma Murray’s appointment as Deputy Chair of the Accounts Commission. 

Her initial four-year appointment as Deputy Chair will run from 1 August 2019 until 31 July 2023.

Commenting on her appointment, Elma said: 

"It is an immense honour to be appointed to the role of Deputy Chair of the Accounts Commission. This is an important responsibility and I relish the opportunity to continue to contribute to public services in Scotland. I am looking forward to working with our Chair and the other members of the Commission."

Elma brings to this role 35 years working in local government, including nine years as Chief Executive of North Ayrshire Council, as well as Chair of Young Scot.

Graham Sharp, Chair of the Accounts Commission, said of the appointment: 

“I am delighted to welcome Elma to her role as Deputy Chair. Her extensive experience of leadership in local government and deep interest in improving Scottish public services will be a great asset to the Commission”.

Elma’s appointment follows the recent retirement of Ronnie Hinds, Deputy Chair of the Accounts Commission for five years.
